Where Do You Really Want to Spend Your Energy?

Coaching is a calling. You pour your heart and soul into guiding others through transformation, helping them break through their limitations, and stepping into their power. It’s rewarding, fulfilling, and let’s be honest—pretty magical.

But then there’s the business side of things. The backend. The operations. The team management. The never-ending Slack notifications. The spreadsheets that somehow multiply overnight.

Many coaches I meet see the value of what I do as an Online Business Manager (OBM). They nod in agreement when I explain how having someone handle operations, team coordination, and business systems can free up their time and mental space. And yet, when it comes down to actually investing in this level of support, they hesitate.

“I can do this myself.” “I already have a VA.” “My budget is tight.”

And hey, I get it. Running a coaching business isn’t cheap, and every investment has to be weighed carefully. But let’s pause for a second and ask the real question: Where do you actually want to spend your energy?

Do You Really Want to Be a Business Manager?

Let’s be clear—you can manage your business backend. You’re smart. You’re capable. You can create launch plans, follow up with your team, make sure tasks are completed, and troubleshoot issues when they arise.

But... do you want to?

Do you love checking Asana notifications as much as you love guiding your clients to breakthroughs? Does following up on overdue tasks fill you with the same joy as seeing your clients have “aha” moments?

Or would you rather be:

  • Holding space for deeper transformations?

  • Creating new programs and offers that expand your impact?

  • Having more time to recharge so you can show up fully in your coaching?

There’s a difference between what you can do and what truly lights you up.

Where’s Your Energy Going?

As a coach, your energy is your most valuable asset. It’s the fuel for your work, the magic behind your presence, and the foundation of your ability to serve. But if that energy is constantly drained by backend operations and micromanaging your team, what’s left for your clients? What’s left for you?

Many coaches think that having a VA is enough. And yes, a VA is an amazing support for execution. But without someone overseeing the big picture—keeping projects on track, making sure the team is aligned, improving efficiency—who does that job?

You do.

Which means you’re spending hours managing rather than coaching. Planning rather than creating. Following up rather than leading.

That’s not why you started this business.

Shifting from “Doing It All” to Leading With Impact

The truth is, every hour you spend in the weeds of your business is an hour not spent growing it. Every ounce of energy poured into backend tasks is energy not poured into your clients and your mission.

So, let’s ask again:

  • Is this what you actually want to be doing?

  • Is this where you want to put your energy?

If the answer is no, maybe it’s time to step into your next level—not just as a coach but as a leader.

Because your magic isn’t in project management. Your magic is in transformation.

And that’s where your energy belongs.
